Harminder Singh Judge

Religious myth is a central theme which surrounds all of Judge’s work; whether through his complex installations, interactive performances, bodily adornments or newly developing shrines. Full of rhetoric and allegory, he uses ritual, dress, sound, prayer, food and protocol to investigate and construct a new sensory and religious language.

“Ultimately I am interested in the authoritative nature of religion and the symbols created to represent the sublime and divine. I am fascinated by how this type of symbolism travels from place to place, country to country, and how it is subsequently translated and digested, resulting in the way different cultures define and visually represent spirituality.

It is not my intention to question the plausibility of religion, I’m concerned with its visual translation, its effect on life, culture and behavior, and its standing in the human psyche."
